New 440 Repeater

Up and Running!

Thanks to the generosity of Len Klein, K4LFK, we have his repeater, K4LFK/r (443.150, PL 103.5, offset 5 Mhz) on loan to the club.  It is now installed on the tower at the Sheriff’s Annex at 466 and Morse Blvd.  The antenna is 62.5 feet up plus a 11 feet terrain advantage over the 443.225 repeater at Station 51, for an overall height advantage of 73.5 feet.  This is a little more than 2x the height of the antenna at Station 51.  We are using a commercial quality 10 db antenna and putting out an E.R.P of approximately 400 watts.  We now have coverage throughout The Villages, and then some.

Many thanks to Rick Silverston, WD4JJI, for walking this project through procurement, frequency coordination and installation.  Rick’s repeater team were on-the-spot and prepared to help.  Let’s hear it for…Ralph Whitacre N8RW, John Ellis, NP2B, Bruce Cusanelli WA1UTO, Larry Russo, K3TFU, Len Klein K4LFK, Wayne Brown N4FP, Rod Burge KA3GRM, and Marty Brown WB2VYK.

Please note that K4VRC/r remains at Fire Station 51.  For now we will continue to use this repeater for Echolink and the Ragchew net (443.225)on Mondays at 7 pm.  Eventually we will move Echolink and the Ragchew net to the new repeater.

See you on 443.150.
Marty Brown, WB2VYK
